Michael Ridge “Live Tape Loops”

QCS_137 Michael Ridge “Live Tape Loops” File/Download

Rough and improvised tape loop jam using a combination of two microcassette loops and one cassette loop, playing a mix of field recordings, singing bowl experiments and heavily warbled/slowed down classical music. The soundtrack to my lockdown experience.

The first ever digital only release on QCS! You can buy/stream it on my Bandcamp page (and check out my other stuff too!):

Norfolk Trotter “Nodule” reel-to-reel loop

QCS_124 Norfolk Trotter “Nodule” reel-to-reel loop (edition of 15)

Experimental and lo-fi Harsh Noise Wall reel-to-reel loops from my side-project Norfolk Trotter. Nodule comprises of an 8 second loop documenting two live recording sessions, both captured utilising a 1960’s Stellaphone ST470 portable open reel tape recorder. The first Wall is crafted from amplifying and distorting the vibrations generated from grinding two flint nodules together. The second is a sparser and more exploratory piece, focusing on the texture of the flint cortex with minimal distortion used.

Front cover artwork is printed in red, whilst the inside cover is printed in black onto light blue paper. Each loop is packaged in a black backed library cassette case. Upon purchase you can also be sent via WeTransfer two 19 minute recordings from my own loop being played back.

Michael Ridge “Heatwave” Recycled Loop Cassette

QCS_113 Michael Ridge “Heatwave” recycled seven second tape loop (edition of 10)
A handmade seven second tape loop inspired by the recent heatwave in the UK. Side A is a rough field recording capturing dry grass and vegetation gently rustling in the hot wind stifling wind, side B is a lo-fi drone composition recorded during a level three warning. Each loop is dubbed onto used audio book tape and installed inside a recycled shell. I’ve allowed tiny fragments of the original recordings to seep into mine, consequently each copy will sound slightly different.

Stark B&W art work is printed onto speckled off-white paper, recycled audio book tapes each have a colour label mounted onto the shell.
*Please note: I’ve tested each loop out on several different cassette players and these work fine, however I can’t guarantee they will work on all!*

Damages ‘Fractures’ C41 Out NOW!

Damages 1
Damages 2 Loop

QCS_087-Damages, Fractures, C41, edition of 18

After a long wait the Damages tape has finally materialised! Behind Damages is Douglas Lucas – a multimedia artist based in Brooklyn, New York who also runs the genius NONE Records.
All sounds on this tape are from the same recording of an electric guitar improvisation recorded on cassette. The recording was damaged by being re-recorded onto another cassette while being filtered through a broken amp and various pedals, then pulling out, wadding, and ripping the tape from that cassette, then re-spooling it back into the cassette and transferring it to a computer for further damages.
Very minimal artwork on this release with only written information being printed onto two sheets of thin white card, that is held together with two damaged six second tape loops containing extracts from side A & B. Black cassette shells feature white labels with black and white artwork and text. Every copy is packaged in an intentionally damaged cassette case courtesy of Damages!
